McIntyre Scores Twice In Draw Versus Ferris State

McIntyre nets two more in tie to Ferris

BURLINGTON, VT. (1/3/09)  – David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) continued his torrid scoring pace with two more goals as Colgate and Ferris State battled to a 3-3 tie in the consolation game of the 13th Annual Sheraton/TD Banknorth Catamount Cup, Saturday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

While the game will go down as a tie, the Bulldogs did manage to win the shootout 2-1 and claimed third in the final tournament standings.  Vermont and St. Lawrence will battle it out for the crown in the title game.

Like in the tournament opener against Vermont, Colgate, now 5-8-5, dug itself a hole in the opening period by surrendering two power play goals.  Ferris State got on the board early at 2:03 as Casey Haines opened the scoring for the Bulldgos from Corey Couturier and Zach Redmond.  The lead increased to 2-0 at 7:40 with another man advantage goal, this time from Derek Graham.

Trailing 2-0, McIntyre took matters into his own hands.  The junior beat Pat Nagle at 18:47 of the opening period with his eighth of the year from Peter Bogdanich (Burnaby, B.C.) and Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas).  Less than a minute later, McIntyre hit the scoring column once again, this time on the power play.  With help from Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) and Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.), he beat Nagle once again just before the end of the period at 19:36.  It was his ninth of the year and third of the tournament.

Ferris, now 9-9-4, reclaimed the lead at 3-2 as Mike Embach found the back of the cage on the power play at 4:59.  Colgate answered the score at 15:13 as Brisebois posted his fourth power play goal of the year, sixth overall, from Williams and Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.).

Neither team could find the answers for Nagle or Colgate's Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) in the third period.  Nagle saved nine shots, while the Raiders' freshman netminder stopped all six and then an additional three in overtime.  Evin finished with 31 saves on the contest, one short of his season-high.

In the shootout, Bogdanich opened by beating Nagle to give the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.  Ferris State's Blair Riley then knotted the shootout at 1-1.  Both Smith and Graham missed their respective shots in the second round.  McIntyre opened the third round and missed on his attempt.  Aaron Lewicki was successful on his attempt to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 win in the shootout.

Colgate was outshot by Ferris State 32-31.  The Bulldogs went three of nine on their power play opportunities, while the Raiders were two of nine.

The Raiders return to action, this Thursday and Friday evening as they host Lake Superior State for a pair at Starr Rink.  Opening face-off is set for 7 p.m. at Starr Rink.
