ALBANY, N.Y. (10/25/08) – Mario Valery-Trabucco's goal at 13:51 of the third helped lift Union to a 4-2 victory over Colgate in the finals of the Hilton Garden Inn Governor's Cup, Saturday evening at the Times Union Center.
The junior collected the puck at the blue line; broke in on a mini breakaway and slid it in for the go ahead goal. It was his first of the year. Adam Presizniuk's empty net tally with eight seconds left cemented the victory for the Dutchmen, who improved to 2-1-1. The Raiders fell to 3-1 on the season.
Colgate got on the board first by capitalizing of its first two-man advantage of the year at 12:28 of the first.
Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.) won the face-off and got it to
Tom Riley (Ottawa, Ont.). He found
David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) wide open inside the right circle and the junior one timed it behind Union goalie Corey Milan. That was the lone goal scored in the opening period.
Union took the lead in the second with back to back goals in a 56-second span. Right after Colgate killed off a Dutchmen power play, at 4:16 Luke Cain pushed in a rebound to knot the score at 1-1. The Dutchmen put Colgate in its first deficit of the year at 5:02 as Brendan Milnamow found the cage from Matt Cook and Kelly Zajac.
However, the Raiders rallied back and got the equalizer at 2-2, once again with a two-man advantage. Brisebois poked the puck behind Milan amongst a scrum in front of the cage at 8:44.
Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.) sent the initial shot from the point and was credited with an assist, as was Riley.

Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) made 22 saves between the pipes for Colgate.
Following the game, two members of the Raiders were named to the all-tournament team. Sophomore
Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.), who was instrumental in Colgate's 5-2 victory over Robert Morris in the semifinal by posting the Governor's Cup first-ever hat trick, joined St. Pierre for the honors.
The Raiders return to action Saturday evening as they host the University of Ottawa in an exhibition at Starr Rink. The drop of the puck is set for 7:30 p.m.
