PHILADELPHIA – The Colgate Raiders are ranked No. 5 in the Division I-AA preseason football poll released Monday by The Sports Network.

Delaware, defending Division I-AA champion, enters the season as the No. 1 team in The Sports Network Top 25. In the No. 2 slot is Southern Illinois, which received seven first-place votes. Big Sky preseason favorite Montana is third after earning three first-place votes, followed by No. 4 Wofford, Colgate, Northern Iowa, Furman, McNeese, Villanova and Georgia Southern, to round out the top ten.

Two of Colgate’s 2004 opponents are in the top 25: Massachusetts (19) and Lehigh (23). The Raiders were 5-1 last year against teams ranked in the Top 25 – beating No. 5 Massachusetts, #10 Western Illinois, #13 Florida Atlantic, #19 Fordham and #24 Lehigh.
