ANNAPOLIS, Md. (2/24/06) - Senior Mark Falkner (Basking Ridge, N.J.) cracked Colgate’s top 10 times list for the 100 breaststroke for the first time in his career on Friday at the Patriot League Championship. His time of 57.61 earned him fourth place at the meet, and placed him seventh in the Raider record books. Sophomore Simon Rosen (Weston, Conn.) earned a spot right behind Falkner when he won the consolation final in 57.68.
Colgate’s 200 medley relay placed sixth, turning in a time that ranks fifth in school history, 1:35.74. Senior Levi Benson (Allegany, N.Y.) swam the backstroke portion in 24.78. Falkner recorded a time of 26.12 in the breaststroke, and sophomore Zach Whitman (Pittsford, N.Y.) swam the butterfly in 23.46. Junior Zach Grobengieser (Spencerport, N.Y.) finished things off with a 21.14 split in the free.
Benson recorded a personal-best time of 53.18 in the finals of the 100 back. He ranks fourth on Colgate’s all-time performers list in that event.
Junior Dave Hill (Pricles Crossing, Mass.) recorded a personal-best time of 4:11.34 in the 400 IM to finish second in the consolation final. The time places him sixth on Colgate’s all-time performers list.
Freshman George Bennitt (West Chester, Pa.) swam the 200 free in a personal-best time of 1:44.68 during the preliminaries. He claimed the seventh position on Colgate’s all-time performers list with that swim. Senior James Silas (Bayside, N.Y.) etched his name right under Bennitt’s with a time of 1:45.01 in the event.
To end the evening session, Colgate recorded the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 800 free relay. Sophomore Jeff Jakob (Medford, N.J.), Bennitt, Falkner and Silas finished the event in 7:01.08.
Colgate sits in sixth place heading into the final day of competition with 164 points. Saturday’s preliminary action begins at 10:30 a.m., and the finals start at 6:00 p.m.
