Douglas N. Johnson


Doug Johnson joined Colgate’s Department of Psychology in 1996. He has taught a variety of courses at Colgate, including Introduction to Psychology, Human Cognition, Research Methods, Statistics, Attention and Memory, and Core Scientific Perspectives courses. In 2001 Professor Johnson received the Phi Eta Sigma “Professor of the Year” award, the highest student-awarded teaching honor at Colgate.

As a scholar, Professor Johnson studies human cognition, with an emphasis on attention, memory and the development of expertise. He has published in a variety of professional journals, including Psychological Science, Memory and Cognition and The Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance. Johnson holds a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis and a M.A. and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.  

He is married to Mary (Molly) Treadway Johnson, Ph.D., and they have two children, Daniel and Sarah.
