An experienced leader with a proven track record of success at every level, Curt Fitzpatrick completed his first season as Colgate University’s Fred ’50 and Marilyn Dunlap Head Football Coach in 2025, guiding the Raiders through a year of transition and growth while laying the foundation for the program’s future.

Named the 31st head coach in Colgate football history in December 2024, Fitzpatrick led the Raiders to a 5-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in Patriot League play in his inaugural season at the helm. Under his leadership, Colgate shattered the program record for passing touchdowns in a season with 29, plus their 3,294 passing yards were their most in a decade. Colgate racked up 400+ yards of total offense six times, matching their best single-season production since 2016.

Fitzpatrick arrived in Hamilton after an exceptionally successful four-year run as head coach at Division III Cortland, where he compiled a remarkable 45-5 overall record. He guided the Red Dragons to a national championship in 2023, earning Division III National Coach of the Year honors, and captured four consecutive Empire 8 titles. His teams reached the NCAA playoffs every season and never finished a campaign with more than two losses.

During Cortland’s 2023 national championship season, Fitzpatrick’s offense set four school records, averaging 46.2 points and 509.2 yards per game while totaling 4,265 passing yards and 3,373 rushing yards. Those marks surpassed records previously established during Fitzpatrick’s first two seasons at Cortland, when the Red Dragons posted a combined 20-3 record.

Prior to Cortland, Fitzpatrick spent seven seasons as head coach at Morrisville State, where he led the Mustangs to 35 victories. The 2014 D3football.com East Region Coach of the Year oversaw four winning seasons, three postseason appearances, and a conference championship. His 2014 team captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference title—the program’s first since joining NCAA Division III—and went on to win the ECAC North Central Bowl, another program milestone.

Across his tenure at Morrisville State, Fitzpatrick mentored three quarterbacks who earned conference Offensive Player of the Year honors, coached 49 All-League selections, and guided 61 student-athletes to the athletic director’s honor roll.

Fitzpatrick began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, St. John Fisher, serving as quarterbacks coach from 2006-07 before moving on to Utica College as offensive coordinator from 2008-12. At Utica, he implemented an accountability program that contributed to the development of 16 All-Conference offensive players, including three D3football.com All-East Region selections.

At St. John Fisher, Fitzpatrick’s quarterbacks combined for more than 5,300 passing yards and 55 touchdowns in two seasons. The Cardinals posted a 23-4 overall record during that span, advancing to the NCAA Division III semifinals in 2006 and the quarterfinals in 2007.

A native of Fulton, N.Y., Fitzpatrick earned his bachelor’s degree in management from St. John Fisher in 2004. He began his coaching career at Fulton High School, helping lead the program to an OHSL Class A League championship in 2005.
