Michal Kucza is in his second season as an assistant coach with Colgate Volleyball.
In his first season with the program, Kucza helped guide the Raiders to a 15-11 mark and a 9-7 record in League play. Senior Diane Seely earned Second-Team All-Patriot League accolades and was one of three Colgate players to receive All-Tournament Team accolades during the regular season.
Kucza made his way to Hamilton after serving as an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s volleyball programs at Rutgers for the 2013 season. As a member of head coach Jason Madsen’s staff, Kucza worked closely with the Scarlet Knights outside hitters, liberos and middle blockers. He also assisted in scheduling matches, practice and game preparation, and recruiting for the women’s program.
"Mike brings the exact energy, competitiveness, and skill base that I was searching for in a second assistant,” said Colgate Head Coach Ryan Baker. “He has an infectious passion for the game, which is great for our players. Mike will be handling our outside attack this fall as he has a great understanding of what that position needs. I've already seen great improvement in our training with him on board."
Prior to his time at Rutgers, Kucza spent the 2012 season as the junior varsity coach at Roselle Catholic High School. He also has extensive experience on the club volleyball circuit, having assisted with a variety of club programs within the state of New Jersey, including Allegro Volleyball, Dig It Garden State (DIGS) and Warren SixPak.
A native of Poland, Kucza earned his bachelor’s degree from Kean University, where he was a member of the men’s volleyball program and also served on the Cougars’ Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
