Jeannette Abbott begins her first season with the volleyball team as an assistant coach.
"We are thrilled to have Jeannette join our coaching staff,” said head coach Ryan Baker. “Her work ethic and passion for training makes her the perfect fit as we look to pursue a Patriot League Championship.“
Abbott, a former All-ACC player at Clemson, joins the Colgate staff after a stint as an assistant coach at Toledo in 2011. She was in charge of recruiting visits and any correspondence with potential student-athletes. She also organized team events, including alumnae weekend, family night and homecoming, while also using social media websites.
Prior to coaching at Toledo, Abbott was a volunteer assistant at Saint Louis University in 2011 and Virginia Tech in 2009. She worked with recruiting and did work on scouting.
Abbott had a stellar career with the Tigers as she was a two-time All-ACC selection and was tabbed as an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American in 2006. She was a four-year starter and led Clemson to the 2007 ACC Championship and earned NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008 as a team captain. Abbott was named the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2005, was voted onto the all-rookie team and was a three-time AVCA All-East Region.
"She has played and won at both the highest club and collegiate levels,” said Baker. “Her training and knowledge as an All-American outside hitter for a premier ACC team will be instrumental in what we do with our attack and block.”
She ranks high on the all-time lists for the Tigers as she is third all-time in kills with 1,793 and first in total attempts with 5,425. Abbott is fifth all-time in kills per game at 3.86 and is one of five players in Clemson history to amass over 500 kills, 1,000 digs and 200 blocks in a career. She holds the rookie record for kills at Clemson with 515 and attempts with 1,502. Abbott also finished in the top-10 in the ACC in kills per game all four years.
