Russell Peterson

Colgate head women’s track & field and cross country coach Laura Nardelli has announced the appointment of Russell Peterson as an assistant coach with the program.
Peterson comes to Colgate from Augustana College where he served as a graduate assistant for two seasons.  Prior to joining the Augustana staff he was head coach at Davenport Assumption High School in Iowa.
 
A graduate of the University of Iowa, Peterson left his mark on the Hawkeyes program finishing on the all-time list in six different events.  He earned six all-Big Ten honors, a Big Ten title in the 4x100 and all-Midwest Region honor.  Peterson qualified in all eight seasons for the national championships and competed in five, placing as high as ninth in the 4x400 relay.

In addition, he made three appearances at the USA National Championships including one Olympic Trials (2004).  After graduation, he competed for Competitive Edge Athletics running in the special invite 400 high hurdles at the 2004 and 2005 Drake Relays.
 
Peterson’s coaching career started as a volunteer assistant at Iowa.  He worked with the sprint/hurdles as well as strength training.  While at Assumption High School, Peterson coached two preps under 49 in the 400m, two fourth place finishes at the state meet, eight conference champions, six District champions, 16 state qualifiers, 10 Drake Relays qualifiers, one Drake Relays champion, six state place winners, one state champion, one Class 3A state record, one nationally-ranked runner and one All-American.
