Kate Popovec was named to Colgate's assistant coaching position in May 2016.
Popovec is coming off a two-year tenure as Northwestern's Director of Player Development. The former Wildcat performer was responsible for preparing student-athletes for personal, academic and athleticdevelopment success. She worked closely with various departments within Northwestern athletics, including academic services, community relations and NU for Life, and assisted the NU coaching staff in breaking down film along with statistical analysis.
Before returning to Northwestern, Popovec spent the 2013-14 season as director of women's basketball operations at La Salle.
"I could not be more appreciative for the opportunity to join the women's basketball staff at Colgate," Popovec said. "I want to thank Bill, Vicky and Ann-Marie for their confidence and support in bringing me to this prestigious institution.
"I'm thrilled to begin my coaching career at such a reputable academic and athletic institution, where tremendous excitement surrounds the future of women's basketball. I look forward to contributing to the Raider tradition!"
A native of Canfield, Ohio, Popovec played two seasons in Evanston while obtaining her bachelor's and master's degrees from Northwestern. During her time with the Wildcats, Popovec was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and one of two NU recipients of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2013. She always had the desire to enter the coaching world after her playing career and during her final season at NU, when she was selected for the WBCA's "So You Want to Be a Coach" class during the 2013 Final Four in New Orleans.
