Hank Lewis begins his first season as the volunteer assistant coach.
Lewis is a full-time associate professor in Colgate’s English department, where he currently teaches fiction writing and African-American literature. He is the author of two books of short stories, the second of which was one of five finalists for the PEN/Faulkner Prize for fiction, the nation’s largest peer-juried award.
A 1989 graduate of Trinity College, Lewis earned his master's from the University of Virginia in 1994. Lewis and his wife, Sarah, moved to Hamilton in 2005, when he became a member Colgate’s English faculty.
Lewis played two years of varsity soccer at Trinity and was the starting goalkeeper of the UVa club soccer team and the Bears FC (New Providence Football League in the Bahamas). He was in net when the Bears FC became Bahamas National Champions by winning the league championship in the 2001-02 season.
He was the Bahamas Football Association men and women's National Team goalkeeping coach from 2000-03 and the assistant coach for outfield players from 2001-02. From 2003-04 he co-coached the Bears FC to the league championship and the league cup.
This past summer, Lewis coached the Mid-York United U14 Girls Select that competed in the AYSO 2006 National Games.
Lewis has both a B and C coaching license from the Bahamas Football Association.
