Recruits: California, Chicago, Ill., Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Western N.Y. and Wisconsin

Kade Rannings is in his fifth year as a Colgate assistant coach, and his first guiding the tight ends and fullbacks. Rannings previously served as running backs and assistant special teams coach since April 2008.

The 2012 calendar year was a special one for Rannings. Last summer, he participated in a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Detroit Lions, working with the tight ends. Colgate also won its second Patriot League Championship and made its second NCAA playoff appearance during Rannings' tenure. Fullback Ed Pavalko, an All-Patriot League first team selection, was part of a record-breaking offense for the Raiders.

Rannings' first two seasons at Colgate saw him coach a pair tailbacks to major awards in both years. First in 2008, senior Jordan Scott was honorable mention All-American while Nate Eachus was the Patriot League Rookie of the Year. Both were All-Patriot League first-team selections. Then in 2009, Eachus again was an All-Patriot League first team choice and Jordan McCord earned second team honors. Eachus went on to be the league's player of the year in 2010 and a consensus All-American. He just completed his first season as fullback for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Colgate backs led the Patriot League in rushing three times under Rannings -- Scott in 2008, McCord 2009 and Eachus 2010. In the first two of those seasons, Eachus also was the league's No. 2 back in terms of yardage gained.

Rannings came to Colgate from St. Joseph’s College in Indiana, where he served as wide receivers coach and video coordinator for two seasons. In his first year with the Pumas, the team finished 8-3 and won the Great Lakes Football Conference title.

A 2005 graduate of Oregon State University, Rannings started his coaching career as an undergraduate with the Beavers. During his four years on the staffs of Dennis Erickson and Mike Riley, Oregon State participated in three bowls – 2002 Insight.com Bowl, 2003 Las Vegas Bowl and 2004 Insight.com Bowl. In 2005, Rannings joined Jim Harbaugh’s staff at the University of San Diego. The Toreros finished 11-1 that year and won the Pioneer League title.

Rannings, 30, grew up in Albany, Ore.
