Brendan Walsh ’15 was named to the Colgate Football coaching staff in 2018, originally serving as an assistant running backs coach before moving to quarterbacks coach in 2019. Walsh shifted to oversee his natural position of offensive line in the spring of 2021, where he has been ever since.

A standout offensive lineman during Colgate’s 2012 undefeated run to the Patriot League championship, Walsh has returned to his alma mater as a dynamic coach. He most recently produced two Second-Team All-Patriot League selections in Chance Niesner and Bardhyl Gashi.

Walsh in total has produced one Academic All-League selection, four All-Patriot League honorees, a Patriot League Rookie of the Year and a conference Offensive Player of the Year.

As the assistant coach for running backs in 2018, Walsh mentored Patriot League Player of the Year James Holland Jr. to an All-America season. Holland earned placement on four All-America squads, two of which named him to their First Team.

Holland rushed for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns to reach fifth in rushing touchdowns (37) in program history, seventh in points (222) and seventh in rushing yards (3,180). Holland’s performance helped the Raiders lead the Patriot League in rushing for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons, finishing at 190.6 per game.

The Raiders went 10-2 in 2018, won their 10th Patriot League championship and finished seventh and eighth in the major national polls.

Colgate’s running game spearheaded an attack that kept getting better as the season progressed, scoring in succession during a six-game run 23, 27, 31, 38, 41 and 48 points. The Raiders last season under Walsh led the Patriot League in rushing for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons, finishing at 190.6 yards.

Still in 2018, Colgate paced the conference in scoring offense at 27.0 and total offense at 344.3, and the Raiders were No. 1 in the Patriot League and finished seventh nationally in time of possession at 32:57.

He arrived in Hamilton after two seasons at Division III Misericordia, where he was an assistant football coach and strength and conditioning coordinator under head coach Mark Ross. Walsh’s first coaching job was in 2015 at Susquehanna, coaching tight ends and assisting with the offensive line.

A native of Waldwick, New Jersey, Walsh made 18 consecutive starts at center for the Raiders during his sophomore and junior seasons before being sidelined by injury.

He guided Colgate’s 2012 undefeated run to the Patriot League championship, helping the Raiders finish as the fourth-ranked offense in all of FCS. Among the marks set that year were school records for points per game (39.4), total offensive yards per game (486.4) and total rushing yards (3,414).

Walsh spent the 2014 seasons as a Colgate student-assistant coach during Hunt’s first season leading the Raiders.

Walsh married the former Lauren Kasparson ’15 of Holden, Massachusetts, in June 2019. Lauren graduated with a Colgate degree in neuroscience and went on to earn her master’s in psychology/neuroscience from Boston University.

The couple resides in Hamilton with their daughter Annie.
