Women’s Rowing Prepped for Patriot Championship

Raiders sending four boats to N.J. for League races

HAMILTON – Four boats are set to represent the Colgate women's rowing team in the Patriot League Championship on Friday, May 16, on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. Action begins with the two varsity four heats at 8 a.m. and 8:10 a.m., respectively. 

Colgate will compete against Patriot League members Boston University, Bucknell, Lehigh, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Loyola, MIT, and Navy. The championship will be scored on a weighted scale, with nine points for the winner of the varsity four race, 18 for the second varsity eight and 27 for the varsity eight from the grand final races. 

After the initial heats in the morning, the afternoon sessions depend on qualifying for either the grand or petite finals. The school that accumulates the most total points in the three races will be crowned the Patriot League champion. The winning team receives the Patriot League's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.

Patriot League Championship Scoring

The championship will be scored on a weighted scale, with 4.5 points for the winner of the Second Varsity Four Race, 45 points for the Varsity Four, 90 for the Second Varsity Eight and 180 points for the Varsity Eight. The school accumulating the most total points in the four races will be crowned the Patriot League champion. If there is a tie for first place in the final point total, the higher-place finisher of the Varsity Eight race will be named the Patriot League champion. The winner of the 2025 Patriot League Women's Rowing Championship will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Rowing Championship, held May 30 through June 1 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.

2024 Patriot League Women's Rowing Championship
Boston University captured its third Patriot League Women's Rowing championship in 2024 as the Terriers swept the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Four races to accumulate 54 points. MIT and Navy finished with 44 team points apiece, with the Mids taking home runner-up team honors by virtue of their second-place finish in the Varsity Eight Grand Final. The Engineers logged a third-place team finish, their highest finish at the Patriot League Championship since 2012.  

Georgetown finished fourth with 36 points and Bucknell totaled 29 points to place fifth. Holy Cross (27), Colgate (16), Lehigh (11) and Loyola Maryland (9) rounded out the nine-team championship field. 

The Boston University Varsity Eight was named the 2024 Patriot League Women's Rowing Boat of the Year. Terriers' head coach Malcolm Doldron collected Patriot League Women's Rowing Coach of the Year honors.
