BOSTON – Select swimmers from the Colgate men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in Boston University's Winter Open Friday and Saturday for a final tune-up before the Patriot League championships. 

Colgate competed against teams from Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Holy Cross, MIT, and Tufts for the two-day invitational. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Olivia Schlegel came away with Colgate's top individual finish of the weekend, placing fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.40. Schlegel also found success in the shorter medley, taking ninth in the 200 IM after clocking in at 2:10.97. 

Katie Senglaub captured a top-10 finish in the 1650 Free, touching the wall in eighth with a time of 17:54.39, just three seconds off the place of the seventh-place finisher from Cornell. Alexis Burton clocked in with a 10th place time of 18:18.34 in the same event.

Lanyon Mlinek shined in the 100 Breast, securing a 10th-place finish with a time of 1:08.34, less than second behind Cornell's ninth-place swimmer. Senglaub turned in a 15th-place finish in the 500 Free (5:15.19), just ahead of teammates Burton (5:17.30) and Meg Erickson (5:17.61). 

In the relays, Colgate's 400 Free quartet of Mlinek, Schlegel, Megan Dera, and Alyssa Dennis turned in a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:39.37. 

On the men's side, Gavin Perez posted Colgate's top individual performance with an 11th-place finish in the 200 IM. Perez touched the wall in 1:56.27 – less than a half-second outside of a top-10 tally in the event.

Ryan Blumenfeld later in the meet clocked in a 14th-place time of 1:44.99 in the 200 Free, just over a second behind his nearest competitor from Cornell.
