Colgate Dominates Lafayette in Straight Sets

Raiders overcame adversity having to switch gym locations mid-game to top the Pards

Easton, Pa. —  After the Raiders took a 25–17 set one victory over the Pards, they had to switch locations due to a power outage. Once play resumed, Colgate completed the 3–0 sweep, edging Lafayette in set two 25–22 and taking set three, 25–14.

COACH BAKER'S COMMENTS
"This was a good response from last night. Our team battled some adversity tonight and handled it with maturity. Our defensive effort was very good again. We are excited to keep training and preparing for the Patriot League Tournament."

Set 1 | Colgate 25, Lafayette 17
The two teams went point-for-point until Maddie Rudolph stemmed a seven-point run for Colgate. The Raiders capitalized on four kills, two attacking errors, and a service ace to build a quick 9–3 advantage. Following a Pards timeout, the Raiders added four more points to push their lead to 13–5. Lafayette garnered a couple of points to try to build momentum to stay in the set, but final kills from Frances Torres and Tiana Owens solidified set one for Colgate, 25–17.

Set 2 | Colgate 25, Lafayette 22
Neither team had a clear advantage, but critical kills from Torres and Owens helped Colgate take a 10–9 lead in the set. The Raiders gained the edge with three kills and two Pards attacking errors to lead, 15–11. Lafayette gained momentum, taking a late 21–20 advantage. Colgate, undeterred and trailing by one, earned four straight points before Torres sealed the set with the final kill, 25–22.

Set 3 | Colgate 25, Lafayette 14
Colgate jumped out to an early 4–1 lead, but Lafayette quickly tacked on three points to level the score at 4–4. The Raiders earned five unanswered points when first-year Jordyn Moore landed back-to-back kills to push their lead to 10–4. Moore, with the hot hand, recorded three more kills to push the Raiders' advantage to 15–7. Colgate had the momentum in their favor, stringing together points as Aubrey Anders capped the sweep off a service ace, 25–14.
