Schurtz-Ford, Mascarinas Lead Raiders at Holy Cross

Raiders Win 10 Total Events in Narrow Defeat

WORCESTER, Mass. –  Jack Schurtz-Ford and Deacon Mascarinas combined for four of Colgate's seven total triumphs in a hard-fought 154-134 loss at Holy Cross on Friday afternoon.

Schurtz-Ford and Mascarinas won a pair of individual events apiece, while Matt Freund and Zack Berner each brought home one gold along with Colgate's first-place 400 Free quarter of Michael Granin, Jack Lira, Cooper Luedde, and Schurtz-Ford.

The leaderboard was full of Colgate Raiders with seven first-place finishes, eight second-place finishes, and eight third-place tallies in a narrow decision at the Hart Center.

COACH PRETRE'S COMMENTS

"Both teams are extremely broken down and I've never seen us do this well on the road since I've been here at Colgate. The team energy was incredible. Total team efforts from both sides. I couldn't be prouder of our team today, and as we move forward into the championship season, we're going to be ready."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Schurtz-Ford shined throughout the afternoon, setting the tone with a first-place finish in the 100 Back with a time of 52.80, besting his nearest competitor by nearly two full seconds. Schurtz-Ford also found success in the 50 Free, taking home gold after clocking in at 22.01.

Mascarinas continued his first-year momentum by first taking the top spot in the 100 Breast with an impressive time of 58.68 to edge Holy Cross' second-place finisher by .2 seconds. Mascarinas claimed his second first-place finish by a full second with a time of 1:59.15 in the 200 IM.

Freund found success in the 200 Fly, edging his teammate Peyton Wray (1:56.46) with a first-place winning time of 1:56.46. Berner once again played a key role in Colgate's success, garnering gold in the 200 Back with a first-place time of 1:59.28.

Colgate's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team continued to anchor the Raiders, led by Michael Granin, Jack Lira, Cooper Luedde, and Schurtz-Ford, who guided Colgate to a first-place finish and 11 team total points in the final event of the day with a winning time of 3:10.03.
