BOSTON –  Deacon Mascarinas and Matthew Szypula won individual events to headline Colgate's success in its double dual meet against Boston University and Fairlfield on Saturday afternoon inside the Terriers' Boston University Pool.

 "With several key swimmers out today, and flying across the country yesterday, I'm very pleased with the grit and fight that our team showed. It was exactly what we need as we go into the stretch run and to have a fast February when it matters!"

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mascarinas shined in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, clocking in with a time of 58.14 to take first place honors. The first-year beat out his nearest competitor from Fairfield by nearly a full second. Mascarinas also garnered third place in the 200 IM, turning in a time of 1:57.00.

Szypula found his success in the 200 Yard Backstroke, securing gold with an impressive time of 1:52.30. He edged out Boston U's second-place finisher by just over three-tenths of a second to take the top spot at the podium. 

Michael Granin, another first-year enjoying strong success this season, garnered a podium finish after clocking in with a third-place time of 4:54.49 in the 500 Yard Freestyle. 

Colgate fell to Boston University, 217-73, and Fairfield, 223-70, in the dual meet action.
