Raiders Fall To Boston, 3-2

Bezanson Nets Second Multi-Goal Game of the Season

HAMILTON - Ari Bezanson scored two goals but the Raiders fell to a late goal against Boston University on Wednesday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

COACH HOKANSON'S COMMENTS

"We forced their goalkeeper into 11 saves, at the end of the day they scored more goals than we did even though we created a lot of chances. It's really hard to win games when you give up three goals.

We have to find marks, we have to stay with marks. We are conceding fewer chances than other teams and we are giving up more goals. So we have to find ways to make the mistakes we make cost us less. It's really disappointing because I thought we played pretty well but we just have to find the positive side of some of those game changing moments. We'll keep our chins up, we still have a lot of belief and know that conference season is the long game. Just like Bucknell, we'll learn and set our sights on the next one. I am proud of our team and still believe our best is ahead of us."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colgate started fast with an Ellie Stokes whipping in a low cross to the feet of Paige Foa. Foa was able to spin to her right and fire just right of the target.

Stokes continued her fast start to the match, cutting inside on her left and ripping a shot but the Boston goalkeeper made a comfortable save.

15 minutes in, Sophie Wand pinged a ball wide to Anna Keeling who took her defender on. Keeling waltzed past her defender and cut the ball back into the path of Wand who struck it towards the bottom left but the Boston goalkeeper made another fantastic save.

Just moments later Wand continued to pull the strings in the midfield finding the feet of Paige Foa who flicked the ball wide to Keeling. Keeling took a heavy touch and the Boston goalkeeper was able to parry the ball wide.

Colgate opened the scoring 19 minutes into the match as Stokes cut inside to the left allowing the Boston defender to put in a sliding challenge. The ball ricocheted into the path of Ari Bezanson who wasted no time firing from 18 yards away off the crossbar and into the net.

Towards the end of the half, the Terriers took a long range shot trying to find the top left corner but Ella Poppinga made an acrobatic tip over the crossbar to keep the Raiders in front.

Boston scored an equalizing goal with ten minutes left in the half.

With under five minutes remaining in the half, Bezanson cut onto her right boot from 25 yards away and fired a shot skipping off the turf, forcing another full stretch save from the BU goalkeeper.

Colgate outshot BU by a staggering 10-2 in the first half but the score remained level at one apiece.

Five minutes into the second half, Bezanson played a through ball to Keeling whose shot went just over the crossbar.

Ari Bezanson netted her second of the night putting the Raiders back in front with 36 minutes left in the game. Jordan Juetten slid a crafty through ball into the path of Ellie Stokes who cut it back to the feet of Bezanson. Bezanson made no mistake firing the Raiders back in front 2-1.

Boston was able to equalize again with a shot from 20 yards away finding the bottom right corner in the 58th minute.

Bezanson took a hopeful effort on target in the 72nd minute that was smothered by the Boston goalkeeper.

Colgate looked to have scored the winner with 15 minutes left but the referee decided a foul occurred on the goalkeeper, nullifying the Raider goal.

With under ten minutes left, Bezanson hit a knuckleball headed for the top right corner but again the BU keeper made an outstanding save to keep the score knotted at two.

Boston scored the winner with under two minutes left on a corner kick.
