Colgate Competes at Head of the Charles

Raiders' 1V8 and 1V4 race for first time

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Colgate men's rowing team opened its season with the varsity eight and varsity four boats hitting the water for the first time this season at the Head of the Charles.

VARSITY EIGHT
Lineup: Luca Williams, Gabe Simmons, Mark Giacona, William White, Ethan Ouyang, James Burke, Ben Schweighauser, Mel Farrell, Bella Jaffe (Cox)
  • The Raiders placed 31st with a time of 16:01.295.
  • Colgate beat out boats from Boston College, Georgia Tech, and George Washington by over seven seconds.
  • The Raiders also defeated boats from Florida, UMass, and Fairfield.
  • The boat came in shortly after crews from WPI, UC Santa Barbara, MIT, and San Diego.
  • La Salle won the race with MIT taking second and Holy Cross earning bronze.

VARSITY FOUR
Lineup: Owen Shakelton, Daniel Kaper-Barcelata, Stokes Feezor, Ryan Fox, Nayda Farnsworth (Cox)
  • The 1V4 logged a time of 17:55.948, finishing 30th.
  • Colgate beat the next boat from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy by one second and defeated George Washington and Illinois by less than five seconds.
  • Additionally, the boat crossed the finish line ahead of crews from Rutgers, Franklin and Marshall, and Tulane.
  • Colgate finished within 12 seconds of boats from RIT, TCU, and Iona.
  • San Diego won the race followed by Setson and UCLA.

UP NEXT
The Raiders are back in action next Saturday when they head to Philadelphia for the Head of the Schuylkill.
