ROME, N.Y. – The Colgate Women's Rowing team hosted their annual Colgate Regatta Saturday afternoon against four other schools in the Erie Canal.
In their fourth regatta of the season, Head Coach
Jessica Deitrick and her squad launched four boats throughout the day, with two v8 boats and two v4s.
Colgate started the day from lane two in the W1V Heat 2 against Robert Morris and Holy Cross. The Raiders' 1v8 boat finished with a time of 6:39.95, the second-fastest boat throughout both heats and earning a spot in the W1V GF. Colgate carried their fantastic speed into the grand final with a first-place finish from lane one with a time of 6:40.55.
The Raiders continued their day with the 2v8 boat in the W2V Heat 2 from the third lane, as they scored a fourth overall finish in the field with a time of 7:07.39 and secured a spot in the W2V PF. As the afternoon kicked off in the 2V petite final, Colgate finished with a first-place time of 7:09.65.
The 1v4 took part in the WV4 Heat 2 against Holy Cross from lane one, the boat sported a time of 7:50.66, beating a league foe and grabbing a second-place finish and a spot in the WV4 GF. The boat went on to finish second in the grand final with a time of 7:53.58.
Colgate's final boat took part in the W2V4 Heat 1 from the right lane, finishing with a time of 8:11.91. The Raiders opted not to compete in the afternoon race due to weather conditions.
FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Jessica Deitrick
"Today was a great day for our program. It was senior day and these seniors have put in a lot of work over their four years so celebrating them this weekend was fantastic. The 1v showed a lot of composure and grit in both their heat and finals. We have been working hard to have the right mindset and attack the race and that's just what they did today.
The 2v had a difficult heat and let the conditions get the best of them. I'm pleased with how they were able to come back in their final and fix some of their mistakes.
The v4 had a strong heat and beat a conference rival and then went out and fought hard in their final to finish second. Our 2v4 that raced in the heats did a great job and gained valuable racing experience. Due to tough conditions, we chose to scratch our other 2v4 for the afternoon race. Overall I could not be more proud of how the team performed today."
UP NEXT
The Raiders race next weekend as they take part in the Women's Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass. The boats are set to launch Sunday.
