Raiders Complete First Day of League Championships

Colgate finished day one of the Patriot League Championships in tied sixth and ninth place

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Colgate Swim and Dive wrapped up the first day of the 2023 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships.

The women ended the day in tied sixth place with 48 points, while the men completed the day in ninth place with 40.

Both teams opened the tournament coming in eighth place in the 200-yard medley relay. Mackenzie Ferguson, Regan Hau, Jordan Hurt, and Elizabeth Rainey came in at 1:44.43 for the women, while Peyton Wray, Ryan Jee, Matt Freund, and Cooper Luedde finished with a final time of 1:32.76.

The final event Colgate participated in was the 800-yard freestyle relay, with the women coming in at sixth place, the highest of the day for the Raiders. Brooke Garretson, Elke Ambach, Danielle McNerney, and Rainey were the quartet who grabbed sixth at 7:33.47, two seconds faster than the nearest group. For the men, Luedde, Freund, Emmet Santry, and Jack Lira placed ninth at 6:52.76.

Navy leads the championships for the men (147 points) and the women (80 points). Army and Bucknell are tied for second for the women at 64 points, while Army (99) and Bucknell (84) round out the top three for the men as well.

Day two of the tournament continues on Thursday, with the preliminary round starting at 10 a.m. and the final round commencing at 6 p.m. inside Kinney Natatorium.
