Raiders Fall to Blue Devils on the Road

Colgate drops 69-54 decision to Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.  — Colgate women's basketball started hot at Central Connecticut State, but ultimately was unable to overcome 32% shooting from the field, losing to the Blue Devils, 69-54. Sophomore guard Madison Schiller poured in a season-high 14 points and eight rebounds, while junior Taylor Golembiewski added a team-high 14 tallies in the loss.

"I felt like we were getting some really good looks," said head coach Ganiyat Adeduntan. "We were moving the ball, cutting and trying to execute our game plan, we just weren't able to finish. We allowed our lack of offense to predicate how we were playing defensively which is something we have to keep getting better at. Offensively, we got shots we wanted to get we just weren't able to finish."

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Raiders silenced the away crowd early after conceding the first points of the game, responding with a 7-0 run behind two hook shots from Tiasia McMillan and a three from Golembiewski. CCSU responded quickly, however, rattling off an assertive 19-4 run spanning across the first two quarters.

After a Schiller layup at 5:30 in the first, Colgate was held scoreless for nearly 10 minutes. Golembiewski eventually ended the nearly scoring drought with a steal and breakaway layup with 6:33 remaining in the second quarter.

She would go on to score the next five points for the Raiders as part of a 7-2 Colgate run, which she capped with an authoritative and-one layup that cut the deficit to eight. But the Blue Devils again had an answer, pushing the lead back to double-digits heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Schiller took the reins for the Raider offense. She converted from beyond the arc before fighting through contact and finishing a three-point play that brought Colgate within eight halfway through the third.

That was as close as the visitors would get, however, with CCSU keeping the Raiders at arm's length for the remainder of the half thanks to 15 second-half points from Samora Watson. Watson tormented the Raiders for all 40 minutes, ending the game with 27 points and handing Colgate its fourth loss of the season.
