Men’s Swim & Dive Earns Three Wins at Lafayette

Freund, Schurtz-Ford, and Suarez Lead Raiders in Dual

EASTON, Pa. – Matt Freund, Jack Schurtz-Ford, and JD Suarez came away with wins during Colgate's 199-99 loss at Lafayette Saturday afternoon.

"The first away meet is always a good learning experience," said head coach Ed Pretre. "Our upperclassmen showed great veteran leadership to our young team today with showing and explaining to them how to be prepared on the road. It's so nice to see this great caring culture evolve over the last few years. It was definitely a good first step, we look forward to going faster next week!"

Freund paced the field of seven swimmers in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking in at 1:57.48 to take first place by just over a half-second.

Schurtz-Ford claimed a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke after turning in a time of 52.91 seconds. He also had a pair of top-five finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle, coming in second and third, respectively.

Suarez found success in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in first at 1:56.44, two seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Lafayette.

Peyton Wray took second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:13.75) and 500-yard freestyle (5:01.22), while teammate Ryan Jee earned runner-up finishes in the 200-yard IM (1:59.78) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.60).

Colgate's 400-yard medley relay team of Suarez, Jee, Scott Pejic, and Jack Liri finished with a runner-up time of 3:33.72.
