Army Prevails Over Colgate

Alli Popham Logs Career-Best Nine Saves

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army scored two penalty kick goals to top Colgate 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

Both of the Black Knights' penalty kicks occurred in the second half and were scored by Kaelan Bradley. The first came a minute into the second, which Bradley converted to make it 1-0. In the 88th minute, she scored her second to secure the victory.

Alli Popham logged a career-best nine saves in the game, shutting down several Black Knight scoring chances. She stopped five shots in the first half and four in the second.

In the 53rd minute, Popham tipped the ball wide of the goal after an Army player got free in the box. She also denied the Black Knights a breakaway chance in the first half.

Colgate had a strong performance in the second, firing seven shots and drawing four corner kicks.

In the 81st minute, Demi Maroudas had a good look from the middle of the box following a corner, but she sailed her shot over the goal. Colgate had another corner three minutes prior that it could not capitalize on.

Anna Keeling launched one from distance in the 71st minute that the Black Knights' goalie saved with ease. Lyna Schaffer also had one stopped in the 65th minute.

Following Army's goal at the start of the second, the Raiders responded well with three shots in under two minutes. Ana Schremp got her foot on the ball following a free kick in the 50th minute but couldn't challenge the keeper. Ari Bezanson cut past a defender and ripped one from outside the box 28 seconds later, but it fell wide of the goal. Just over a minute later, Nikki DiCaprio put a shot over the bar off a set piece.

The first half saw no goals from either side. The Raiders recorded two shots in the opening 12 minutes, with Ally Giovino putting an attempt wide and DiCaprio connecting on a header off a free kick that also went off target.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson

"Can't say anything but how proud I am to lead this team. They have given their all this season through good, bad, and otherwise. Can't fault their effort and intention each and every time out. We've had some tough breaks, but they've stuck together and continue to fight for one another. Disappointed for them today. Happy to come home to conclude the regular season and see what comes next from there."
