WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Colgate men's rowing team concluded its season with another strong performance as its varsity eight boat rowed to a 20th place finish at the IRA National Championship Regatta at Mercer Lake.
It is the third-straight IRA Regatta that the varsity eight has claimed a top-20 finish.
On Sunday, Colgate placed second in the fourth level final. A late push helped the Raiders clock a time of 6:09.38 that edged out Marist by nine-tenths of a second and was just 1.3 seconds behind Oregon State. The Raiders also defeated boats from MIT and Santa Clara.
Colgate took fifth place in the C/D semifinals Saturday, posting a time of 5:59.65 which beat out Santa Clara by four seconds. The Raiders trailed winner Drexel by 11 seconds and were also within 10 seconds of the next three boats from Penn, Temple, and Oregon State.
The Raiders reached the semifinals after a third-place result in their repechage race Friday afternoon. Colgate clocked in at 5:52.36, finishing 10 seconds ahead of the next boat from MIT.
During the morning session, the Raiders notched a fifth-place finish in their heat against tough competition. Colgate rowed a time of 5:50.65, which was 13 seconds off from the winning boat from Brown and less than one second behind the fourth-place boat from Navy. The Raiders defeated Temple, outpacing its boat by four seconds. Wisconsin and Princeton came in second and third respectively, crossing the finish line less than eight seconds ahead of Colgate.
