PHILADELPHIA — The Colgate men's rowing team competed at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on Friday and Saturday. The Raiders' varsity eight boat took home a silver medal, marking the second best finish in program history at the event.
The Raiders, who entered the race ranked 24th in the country in the IRA poll, began the action on Friday with a first place finish in their heat, posting a time of 5:33.55. Colgate defeated boats from Jacksonville, St. Joseph's, and Army West Point.
On Saturday, Colgate placed second out of six teams in its semifinal heat. The Raiders recorded a time of 5:39.81, coming in ahead of Delaware, Marietta, Rutgers, and Army. Colgate was also just two seconds behind the winning boat from 20th-ranked Temple.
In the Grand Final, Colgate defeated George Washington, Temple, St Joseph's and Delaware to take second place with a time of 5:33.01. The Raiders' boat trailed the winning one from 16th-ranked Drexel by just two and a half seconds.

The Raiders now train for the IRA National Championship Regatta being held June 3-5 in West Windsor, N.J. The team earned an automatic bid to the regatta after taking first place at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship on April 16.
