BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate could not escape the 3-point shooting of Lehigh tonight, as the Mountain Hawks made 12 shots from behind the arc and beat the Raiders 72-56.
Lehigh was led by Mackenzie Kramer with 17 points.
Taylor Golembiewski led the Raiders with 14 points and four rebounds.
Tiasia McMillan pulled in a team high of eight rebounds and added six points. Colgate continued their accuracy from the foul line and went 4 for 4.
The first quarter was one of runs. Lehigh jumped ahead 9-0. After a Colgate timeout, the Raiders stormed back with 10 unanswered points of their own to go up 10-9. Lehigh responded with two three point baskets and a layup to go up 17-10 to end the quarter.
Golembiewski scored first for Colgate and she was followed by
Jenna Paul with a jumper.
Alexa Brodie got in the act before Paul added another deuce.
Morgan McMahon sank a spin around jumper from the paint to take the lead but then the Mountain Hawks responded with eight unanswered points.
The Mountain Hawks came out firing in the second quarter and put in four straight shots from behind the arc to stretch their lead to 29-10. After a Colgate timeout, Lehigh added a layup but after that Paul responded with Colgate's first three.
Sophia Diehl put one in from the paint, McMahon added a pull up jumper, and Paul added a basket to close the gap to 14. Lehigh responded with another three before McMahon put in a one handed layup.
Morgan Frank scored her first points of the game and Colgate ended the quarter down 38-23.
Golembiewski put in three baskets and two free throws this quarter to try and chip away at Lehigh's lead. Brodie and McMahon added jumpers in this quarter and McMillan put one in from the paint. Right after that, Diehl responded and put in a basket as she went crashing toward the floor after a foul and then she added the point after to close the gap to 13. Colgate outscored Lehigh 20-19 this quarter but Lehigh kept their accuracy from long range as they added three more 3-pointers.
The fourth quarter had Colgate keeping it close but not able to close the gap. Diehl added a jumper to bring her point total to ten for the night. McMillan addd two more baskets this quarter and both Frank and Golembiewski converted a steal into a basket. Golembiewski added one more deuce to bring her team high total to 14 but ultimately Colgate could not match up with Lehigh this evening.
