BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Make it four straight wins for the Raiders.
Taylor Ludwick homered twice and
Bailey Misken tossed a complete game gem as Colgate avenged its only loss of the weekend with a big 7-1 victory over Rhode Island here Sunday.
Colgate capped off opening weekend with its fourth consecutive win behind 11 hits including two doubles and a pair of Ludwick homers. That was plenty of support for Misken who went the distance allowing one unearned run on five hits with seven strikeouts to improve to 2-0.
Ludwick's first homer sparked the scoring in the top of the second. Rhode Island tied it 1-1 in the third but then the Raiders went back to work in the fourth.
Steph Jacoby roped an RBI double to score
Claire Whalen and put Colgate in front for good.
Ludwick's second homer of the day was a two-run shot to give the Raiders a 4-1 cushion in the sixth.
Quinn Livesay cleared the bases with a three-run double in the seventh and Misken finished a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh with a strikeout to seal the 7-1 triumph.
Colgate's offense was led by Ludwick who finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Kara Fusco also collected two hits, while Livesay's lone hit was a big one – scoring three runs for insurance with her bases-clearing double in the seventh.
