Colgate Names Engelhardt Director of Student-Athlete Academic Enhancement

Engelhardt Brings More Than 10 Years of Experience in Student-Athlete Support

HAMILTON, N.Y.Colgate Athletics announced the addition of Erin Engelhardt to the staff as the new Director of Student-Athlete Academic Enhancement.

Reporting through the Center for Learning, Teaching, & Research (CLTR) and the Dean of the Faculty, Engelhardt will be charged with supporting the academic success, personal development, and career readiness of Colgate's 550 student-athletes throughout the year.

Engelhardt brings to Colgate more than 10 years of experience working with student-athletes and academic support. She was the assistant director for student-athlete support at Seattle University from 2006-2017 and served four years as a senior woman administrator.

CLTR Director James Watkins said of Engelhardt's hire, "We are excited and very lucky to have someone with Erin's background and training here at Colgate. In addition to her extensive experience in athlete academic support, she is coming to us from Syracuse University's office of Disability Services. Her work there really gave her a novel perspective on the diverse ways that students learn. We think a lot about universal design on campus and Erin is going to slide right into those conversations."

While at Seattle Engelhardt monitored academic progress and eligibility requirements of more than 300 student-athletes. Fostering relationships while tracking students' progress toward degree, academic progress rates, and graduation rates, she was the liaison to all academic departments, registrar and admissions offices on campus.

Continuing her professional and leadership development, Engelhardt contributed to the university's overall strategic plan and served as a member on the Athletic Advisory Board and Division I task force. She was also an academic advisor and residence hall director during her time in Seattle.

Vice President and Director of Athletics, Nicki Moore remarked, "Our coaches, student-athletes and administrative team look forward to working with Erin in this role. With her professional experiences and interpersonal skills, we expect her to be a tremendous addition to our caring community of coaches and staff who support our student-athletes in many ways." Moore added, "Colgate presents the unique opportunity for student-athletes to be fully immersed in both academic and athletic pursuits at the highest level, and this position plays an important role in helping student-athletes navigate associated challenges and opportunities."

Most recently Engelhardt has spent the past three years as the disability access coordinator at Syracuse University where she developed a comprehensive plan for hundreds of students with documented disabilities. A liaison to the College of Arts & Sciences and Athletics department, Engelhardt provided counseling and resources to students on disability-related academic concerns while collaborating with campus resources and partners, such as health services, counseling and dean of students.

A native of East Syracuse, Engelhardt graduated summa cum laude from Le Moyne with a bachelor of arts in psychology. She went on to earn her master's degree from Syracuse in higher education administration. Engelhardt resides in Fayetteville with her husband, Eric Badeau, and their daughters Mary and Elly.
