Boston U Defeats Colgate 59-45

Alexa Brodie scores 16 points to lead the Raiders

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Boston University used a strong second quarter to build a formidable lead and Colgate was not able to catch up despite putting up a tough fight in the second half. The Terriers were led by Caitlin Weimar who had a double double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. BU benefited from a strong presence in the paint, accounting for 30 of its points on the afternoon. Alexa Brodie was Colgate's leading scorer with 16 points and three assists as she continues to lead the team with assists this season. Morgan Frank and Jenna Paul contributed six and seven points off the bench respectively.

Paul scored Colgate's first points of the game off an assist from Tiasia McMillan. Brodie went to the line next and continued her accuracy from the stripe putting in two. Brodie added a three-point jumper to put Colgate in the lead at 7-5. Morgan McMahon added points from the paint and pushed the lead to four points. BU came back with a seven point run of its own before Paul added a layup and the point after to tie the game at 12. After a jumper from Taylor Golembiewski, Colgate ended the quarter down 15-14.

McMahon started the second quarter with a deuce to put Colgate back in the lead. Again the Terriers responded with a seven point run until Brodie had a pull away jumper in the paint. After BU added ten unanswered points, McMillan put two points on the board. After one more layup by the Terriers they entered the locker room up 34-20. The Raiders were outscored 19-6 in the second quarter.

After the break, the Raiders showed a toughness that kept the battle fairly even the second half of the game. Colgate outscored BU in the third quarter 16-15. McMahon hit the first jumper of the quarter, with Brodie putting one in next. Sophia Diehl came inside the arc for her first two points of the afternoon, followed by two more points in the paint by Paul. Brodie kept hitting her shots and added two more points. Next it was Diehl's turn off a fast break to put more points up from the paint. To end the quarter, Morgan Frank put up two baskets in addition to some strong defensive plays.

In the fourth quarter, Colgate had narrowed the deficit to eight but was unable to hold that momentum. Diehl continued her assault on the basket from within the arc as she sank another jump shot. Brodie went back to the line and added two more free throws going 4-for-4 for the day and followed that up with a three-point basket. Frank, continuing to play tough, added the last basket for the Raiders with a layup. The Raiders kept the scoring close in the fourth as the Terriers only outscored them by one.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"We started the game off strong but then did not play well the second quarter. At halftime, I challenged them to fight harder and play tougher, which they did but it was not enough to make up the deficit. We need to learn from our losses and close out our games and have 40 minutes of strong play. We are going to focus on us this week and take advantage of the bye and keep getting better every day as we tackle the second half of the conference schedule. "
