Colgate Women Fall to Bucknell 61-41

Tiasia McMillan tallies first career double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds

HAMILTON, N.Y. - On the night that Colgate Women's Basketball celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., the Raiders were no match for the Bucknell Bison, falling 61-41 at Cotterell Court Wednesday. The Patriot League Rookie of the Week, Bucknell's Cecelia Collins, scored 14 points to lead the Bison in scoring. For the Raiders, Morgan McMahon was the high scorer with 11 points for the game, but the stat sheet was led by Tiasia McMillan with her first career double double and the team's first this season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

In the first quarter, the Raiders kept the score tight. The Bison jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Colgate came right back and tied it up off two pull-up jumpers by Tiasia McMillan. Bucknell increased its lead to seven before Alexa Brodie sank a jumper followed by a driving layup by McMillan. Another jumper and ensuing free throw for Brodie tied the score up at 11. After a missed jumper by Alexa Naessens, she pulled down her own board and went right back up to add the last basket of the quarter with Bucknell holding a narrow lead 15-13.

In the first seconds of the second quarter, Morgan McMahon put in two to tie up the score at 15. Bucknell added two baskets before McMahon sank a three to pull within one. The lead grew to six before Brodie came back with two more points from the paint. The Bison ended the half up five, 25-20.

The third quarter saw the Bison outscore the Raiders 20-5. McMahon added one from the stripe, and both McMillan and Taylor Golembiewski added shots from the paint but they could not stop the Bison from going on a scoring run.

The Raiders fought back in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the lead the Bison had accumulated in the third quarter. McMillan started off Colgate's scoring with a quick jumper from the paint, followed by Jenna Paul adding two from the free throw line. McMahon added her second three of the game and then followed that with two free throws shortly thereafter. Paul finished her night going four for four from the stripe and Morgan Frank netted one of two from the line. The last two baskets of the night for the Raiders were scored by Golembiewski.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"Before tonight's game, our team talked about honoring the legacy that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stands for and his fight for equal rights. I challenged the ladies to play with the courage and determination that Dr. King showed as he never lived in fear while fighting for equality. We showed that courage and determination in the first half where we followed the scout and played a more disruptive style, but we were not able to maintain it for 40 minutes of tonight's game. I am grateful for the leadership of our Director of Athletics, Dr. Nicki Moore, and her inclusive and supportive values which drive our department and the fact we were able to honor Dr. King tonight. We will regroup and continue to look for the small wins as we lay the foundation to keep getting better. We head out on the road for two in a row this week starting with Lafayette on Saturday and Loyola on Wednesday."
