ROME, N.Y. – Colgate Rowing opened its spring season with a set of five races in a dual meet format against the Holy Cross men over on the Erie Canal.
 
The Raiders won two of the matchups and Holy Cross three. A highlight for Colgate was that the two crews from the original Varsity 8+ were then divided into bow four and stern four, and the Raiders came away with a pair of victories in the fours.
 
Here are the results of each boat:
 
Men's Varsity 8+
Crew: 1 Andrew Smith, 2 Gian Civitello, 3 Elliot Duessel, 4 Riley Heise, 5 Lucca Figlioli, 6 Colin Clark, 7 Thomas Feeney, 8 Noah Barkoff.
Cox: Tali Filstein.
Results: Holy Cross crossed the line in 6:37.35, just 1.3 seconds ahead of Colgate's 6:38.65.
 
Men's Second Varsity 8+
Crew: 1 Ryan Pere, 2 Harrison Zeigler, 3 Henry Bartol, 4 Connor Appleyard, 5 Everett Graves, 6 Alexander Schade, 7 August Girard, 8 David McKay.
Cox: Garrett Kalter.
Results: Holy Cross finished first with a time of 6:46.59. Colgate was next in 6:56.56.
 
Men's Varsity 4+
Crew: 1 Noah Barkoff, 2 Lucca Figlioli, 3 Colin Clark, 4 Thomas Feeney.
Cox: Tali Filstein.
Results: The Raiders prevailed in this one with a time of 7:23.55, bettering the Holy Cross finish of 7:28.43.
 
Men's Second Varsity 4+
Crew: 1 Riley Heise, 2 Elliot Duessel, 3 Gian Civitello, 4 Andrew Smith.
Cox: Garrett Kalter.
Results: Colgate swept the fours with a time of 7:22.88, easily defeating the Holy Cross boat finish of 7:38.35.
 
Men's Third Varsity 8+
Crew: 1 Ryan Pere, 2 Harrison Zeigler, 3 Rahul Bhandaru, 4 Connor Appleyard, 5 Everett Graves, 6 Alexander Schade, 7 August Girard, 8 David McKay.
Cox: Garrett Kalter.
Results: Holy Cross finished with a narrow victory of just 1.16 seconds. The Crusaders crossed in 6:59.53 to Colgate's 7:00.69.
