STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - After a strong first half which saw Colgate up by 10 points on the Seahawks, the Raiders were unable to withstand Wagner's second comeback win of the season as Colgate was outscored 41-22 in the second half and fell by a score of 62-53 at the Spiro Sports Center.
Jenna Paul scored a season-high 14 points and
Alexa Brodie, also with 14, recorded her fourth consecutive game with more than 10 points, but it wasn't enough to bring home the victory.
Colgate put points on the board first with Tiasia McMillan driving to the basket for a layup.
Taylor Golembiewski followed suit and added her first of two baskets this quarter. The remainder of the scoring was spread around with Brodie, Paul and
Sophia Diehl contributing to the 12-9 lead at the end of the quarter. Colgate was shooting over 46% and outrebounded Wagner 12-7.
After Wagner tied the score at 13 just over two minutes into the second quarter, Brodie, the senior captain, took control and scored eight of the team's 19 points that quarter. The Wagner defense was unable to stop her driving to the basket and capitalizing on four free throws to lead the Raiders' attack. Morgan Frank added five points after a great steal set up her first three-pointer of the game. With additional contributions from Diehl, Paul and Golembiewski, the Raiders increased their lead to 10 at the half.
In the third quarter, Wagner began an offensive run that would ultimately give them the lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Colgate was outscored 22-9 and Wagner's defense held Brodie to just one basket. Paul's second three-pointer led the Raider scorers and baskets by Golembiewski and McMillan kept the score close at 40-43.
Entering the fourth quarter, the two-three zone by the Wagner defense continued to give the Raiders trouble as they only shot 31% compared to 48% in the first half of the game. Paul continued her accuracy from behind the arc as she sank two more threes to tally her season high of four. Morgan McMahon scored on a basket and a free throw for her first three-point play of the season. With Frank and Brodie each scoring a deuce the 13-point total was not enough to overcome the 19 points of the Seahawks to end the game.
Emilija Krista Grava led the Seahawks with a game high 19 points, eight of which she added in the fourth quarter.

"A tough loss on the road for the ladies today. We saw some great stretches of play but did not hold our focus for the full 40 minutes. We need to finish our games with a stronger second half. We will work on what we can control and build upon this game and keep improving as we prepare for our next game."
