BOSTON – The Colgate men's rowing team competed in three races on Sunday at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Colgate's top finish came in the lightweight 4 where the Raiders placed third.
Â
The lightweight 4 was Colgate's first race of the day. Racing with bow number 11, Colgate was the third fastest crew racing to a time of 16:57.192 to finish behind crews from Penn and Harvard. Colgate also finished ahead of second boars from each school, as well as crews from Harvard, Cornell, and Dartmouth.
Â
Colgate's second event was the collegiate 8 and Colgate's boat was unable to finish. Colgate was in the top 10 for time at each of the three bridges along the race course, but the boat hit a submerged object late in the race, damaging the skeg, rudder, and steering yoke, and forcing the crew to retire from the race.
Â
The Raiders completed the afternoon with an entry in the College 4. Colgate placed 21
st out of 40 entries, narrowly missing automatically earning an entry for next year's race.
