HAMILTON – The Colgate Raiders made their Sunday opponent work for it, just like they've made all of their Sunday opponents work. But Army gained control in the second half and defeated Colgate 79-45 here at Cotterell Court.
After trailing 16-2 and 21-6 during the first quarter, Colgate rallied to make a game of it.
Keelah Dixon, who led the Raiders with 11 points, scored seven straight late in that opening stanza to narrow the Black Knight margin to 24-13 after 10 minutes.
Jenna Paul's jumper capped a 9-0 Colgate run that pulled the Raiders within 29-26 with 5:18 left before halftime. It was 41-32 Army when
Morgan Frank scored on a put-back jumper and
Katlyn Ghavidel knocked down a 3-pointer to send the Raiders to the locker trailing 41-37.
Ghavidel on a nice handoff from
Alexa Naessens laid in the opening two points on Colgate's first possession of the second half. But that was a close as the Raiders would get as Colgate went ice cold the rest of the way.
Paul scored 10 points in 22 minutes to cap a fine weekend for the sophomore guard. Dixon in addition to her scoring led the team with four assists, while Frank grabbed a team-high seven boards.
Army placed five in double figures, led by Taylor Sullivan with 16. Kate Murray added 12 points and a dozen rebounds, while Alisa Fallon finished with 12 and 10.
The Black Knights improved to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in the Patriot League North Division. Colgate is now 1-7.

Head Coach Bill Cleary: (On the game) "We kind of got away from what was working in that second quarter. One of the things we are talking about is we've got to be more disciplined. If we are more disciplined and do what we do, we will find that success just like we did in the second quarter.
"It's something these young players need to understand and we've got to get better at doing that. I put this one me. We will go back to the drawing board and make it better for next weekend."
