WORCESTER, Mass. – Katlyn Ghavidel scored a career-high 18 points but Colgate opened its two-game Patriot League North Division series against Holy Cross with a 77-48 setback.
The Raiders (1-4, 1-4 North) grabbed an early 8-5 lead on the first of Ghavidel's four 3-pointers in the game, but then Holy Cross outscored Colgate 16-5 to lead 21-13 at the end of one quarter.
The Crusaders were just as efficient in Quarters 2 and 3, building leads of 44-29 by halftime and 68-39 heading to the fourth.
Geddy Rerko was another Colgate bright spot. The sophomore swished her first collegiate 3-pointer and grabbed a career-high and game-leading nine rebounds in 23 minutes.
Ghavidel was 4-of-9 from downtown, marking another career best for 3-pointers made.
The Raiders were without the services of first-year forward
Lindsay Blackmore, who was injured. Colgate already is missing four would-be starters in
Ava Williams,
Holly Lueken,
Nia Ahart and
Taylor Langan, all of whom are injured and out for the season.
Holy Cross (3-2, 3-2 North) had five in double figures, led by Oluchi Ezemma, Avery LaBarbera and Janelle Allen with 14 apiece.
