Colgate's Comeback Falls Short to Lipscomb

Chiavaro, Maxson Named to All-Tourney Team; Amano Scores First of Season in 3-1 Defeat

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Emily Amano scored her first goal of the season in the second half but Colgate's comeback bid fell short against Lipscomb 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Vanderbilt's Soccer Complex.

Colgate (0-5-1) earned the first corner kick just over a minute into the game but Lipscomb fired the opening shot on target two minutes later. Kelly Chiavaro scooped up the shot with ease in the center of the goal for her first save of the contest.

Possession was back-and-forth throughout the half, with Abby Sotomayor and Dom DeMarco rifling a pair of shots wide within the first 15 minutes before a couple misfires from the Bisons in the middle stages.

The match remained scoreless until Lipscomb's Katia Hanger found the back of the net on a rebound in the 38th minute to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Colgate brought pressure early in the second half and Sage DiGiulio found a lane for an open shot but it flew just over the crossbar. Chiavaro picked up another save in the opening minutes of the half but Lipscomb doubled its lead on a marker from Maycie McKay in the 51st minute.

Lipscomb (4-2-0) sustained offensive control and kept the pressure in the Raider defensive zone and McKay added her second goal on a header just over five minutes later to extend the home team's lead to 3-0.

The Raiders quickly responded in the 65th minute. Amano subbed into the game two minutes prior before slotting a hard shot into the back of the net on an assist by Emily DeNunzio. The marker was the first of the young season for Amano.

Momentum shifted to Colgate's side for the next five-plus minutes. Nicole Apuzzi forced a save and Adrienne Vaughn laced a shot wide right in the 70th before the Bisons regained possession.

Colgate generated another corner kick down the stretch and DiGiulio blasted a shot just wide in the 73rd minute, which would be the Raiders final attempt in the 3-1 final.
