Colgate Succumbs to Albany's Fast Start

Raiders Fall to Albany 3-0, Look to Bounce Back Sunday at Home

ALBANY, N.Y. – Albany scored two goals in the first five minutes and the Colgate men's soccer team was never able to recover in a 3-0 final on Thursday night at Casey Stadium.

Colgate's record dipped to 0-2-3 on the season after the loss, while Albany picked up its first win of the year to improve to 1-3-0.

A series of unfortunate events pinned Colgate in an early hole. A foul on the edge of the 18-yard box handed Albany a penalty kick 57 seconds into the match and Austin DaSilva capitalized.

Five minutes later, a bad bounce in the defensive zone paved the way for a one-timer goal and the Great Danes quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Colgate got going offensively and generated a pair of corner kicks in the 19th minute. Kian Alberto forced a tough save on a long-range shot and Christian Clarke blasted a shot over the crossbar from the top of the 18-yard box.

The Raiders owned the advantage in total possession and shots were 7-5 at the half, but Albany added another tally on an odd-man rush to carry a 3-0 lead into the break.

Colgate held Albany without a shot for over 30 minutes of the second stanza. Baraka Kiingi set up Drew Fischer for a one-timer but his shot was saved in the center of the net. Moments later, Fischer twirled a corner kick off the post for one of Colgate's best scoring chances of the night.

Despite Colgate controlling possession, the Raiders were unable to crack Albany's back line in the 3-0 final score.

BOTTOM LINE
Albany 3, Colgate 0
