GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Colgate concluded one of the best seasons in program history Sunday with a sixth-place result in at the IRA National Championships.

The Raiders rowed their Varsity 8+ boat to a time of 5:58.708 in the Third-Level Final. It was the last of four races this weekend for the Colgate boat and solidifies the Raider standing among the nation's top 18 crews.

Colgate's run of success began last summer with
Alex Damjanovic and
Luke Smith winning the U23 National Time Trials in lightweight pairs. In February, Damjanovic and Smith won gold and silver, respectively, at the U.S. Rowing Indoor Championships in the Under 23 Lightweight Men's category.

That momentum carried over into the spring as Colgate's Varsity 8+ made its way to the Kerr Cup Grand Final to set the stage for a gold medal-winning performance at the Dad Vail Regatta. The Raiders that afternoon won the Richard O'Brien Trophy for the first time in program history with a record-breaking time of 5:30.598.

Colgate with that victory moved into the top 20 in both major polls and earned automatic qualification into the IRA National Championships, where they advanced to the Third-Level Final in line with their top-20 status.

Results: Colgate finished sixth in the Third-Level Final, crossing in a time of 5:58.708. George Washington won this race in 5:48.910 to just clip second-place Navy's 5:49.655. Columbia, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania filled places 3-4-5.
