Colgate Completes Weekend Sweep at Army

Johnson and Romero Collect Two Hits, Crow Goes the Distance in 4-2 Victory

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Rebecca Johnson and Meghan Romero recorded two hits and an RBI apiece to back a strong pitching performance from Bella Crow as Colgate capped off the weekend sweep of Army with a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Army Softball Complex.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when Colgate took advantage of an infield error to get on the board. Johnson reached on the miscue and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Romero drilled an RBI double into the right-center gap.

Virginia Irby moved Romero up to third base on a fielder's choice and Jordan Miller capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to extend Colgate's lead to 2-0.

After Army plated its first run in the home half of the third, Johnson slashed a hard single into right field to score Cayman Coughlin and stretch the Raider lead to 3-1 after four innings.

Colgate padded its lead in the top of the fifth when Mia Guevarra beat out an infield single with two outs to score Miller all the way from second.

Crow was in cruise control until Army strung together a two-out rally in the seventh. An RBI single by Emily Ballesteros brought the winning run to the plate, but Crow reared back to finish her complete game with a flyout securing the Raiders' weekend sweep, 4-2.

Ballesteros led the Black Knights offensively with three hits. Renee Poirier surrendered the loss in the circle, allowing three unearned runs over 3 1/3 innings.
