Navy Outduels Raiders in Annapolis

Mids Post 67-52 Triumph Despite 12 Points Apiece from Thompson, King

ANNAPOLIS, Md.Navy's Jennifer Coleman led all scorers with 16 points and the Mids snapped a five-game losing streak with a 67-52 triumph over Colgate.

Coleman pocketed five steals and Navy as a team came up with 15 steals to thwart many Colgate comeback attempts. The Mids entered the game leading the Patriot League in steals at 11.3.

Navy forced the Raiders into a season-high 24 turnovers. Colgate had 21 miscues against the Mids during last month's home loss, and those two turnover totals are the most by the Raiders in conference play this season.

Rachel Thompson and Summer King were the Colgate scoring leaders with 12 apiece.

The Raiders led 13-7 early but Navy scored nine of the last 11 points to end the first quarter and lead 16-15. Colgate's King scored on a layup to begin the second quarter but Morgan Taylor's jumper began a 9-0 Mids run and they never trailed again.

It was 38-26 Navy at halftime.

Two quick baskets to open the second half and Navy held its largest lead at 42-26. Colgate got within eight on three occasions the rest of the way but no closer.

From the Source
• Head Coach Bill Cleary (On the game) "We didn't play hard at all after the first quarter. Our passing was poor, our defense was nonexistent and we aren't following what we are coached to do. We just weren't disciplined enough, and you can't win games against a team like Navy not playing disciplined basketball.

"We will get after it in practice and be ready to go Wednesday night against Boston University."
