HAMILTON – With lightning engulfing the area on Monday night,
Ellis Miller made sure that her strike was the most memorable for the Colgate Women's Soccer team.
The sophomore scored her second goal in as many games to deadlock the Raiders with the Bulldogs midway through the second half at 1-1 and the tally was one for the highlight reel. She received a long pass straight up the middle of the field from
Leah Lewis and shed a defender before she unleashed a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced straight down, but just past the goal line.
Miller's second of the season served as a quick response, as Yale took a 1-0 lead just over ten minutes before the marker when Saje Brar potted her first career goal in the 61st minute. The eventful second half came after a strong defensive opening 45 minutes, where both teams combined for just three shots, including two shots on goal from
Jenna Borovinsky.
Aside from Yale's goal, the second half belonged to the Raiders. They held a 10-2 advantage in shots to finish regulation time with a 12-3 edge, but goalkeeper Alyssa Fagel kept the Bulldogs in the game as part of her eight save evening.
In the opening overtime session, Colgate mounted a strong attack and
Hannah Pinkus had a great chance off her head on a corner kick from
Sage DiGiulio that was held out. After seven minutes of the 10-minute session, the game was officially called due to a lightning strike that was perceived to be inside of eight miles away, which was means to end the game.
The beginning of the game was also affected due to nearby lightning, as starting lineup introductions had just gotten underway before the officials saw a nearby strike. An original kickoff of 5 p.m. was pushed back to 6:30 p.m.

Assistant Coach
Alyssa Manoogian
"With the delay, everyone was pretty unsure of how it was all going to get started," said Manoogian. "I think it speaks volumes about us, and Yale as well, that we were about to come out and play a great game right from the start."
"We worked ourselves into the game," said Manoogian. "We were a little bit stronger towards the end of the first half and then carried that momentum into the second half. Overall, we're really happy with the way we played."
"Our record doesn't necessarily reflect the way we feel like we've been playing," said Manoogian. "We're really happy with things. We've had a few things break down, but for it to happen now where we can fix things day-by-day is incredible and the players are working really hard day in and day out."
