Raiders Roll Past Hofstra, Remain Unbeaten

Colgate Off to 3-0-0 Start for First Time Since 1973

HAMILTON – Edward Bass and Oliver Harris scored their first goals of the season to lead the No. 21 Colgate men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Hofstra Thursday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

It was a defensive battle early on as neither side could find the back of the net until Colgate struck with 58 seconds left in the opening stanza. Matthew Glick retrieved a long pass down into the corner and fired a quick cross into the box. Uyi Omorogbe connected on the pass but his shot was blocked and Bass hammered home the rebound to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead at the break.

Colgate owned a 6-1 advantage in shots at the half and the Raiders defense held Hofstra without a corner kick or shot on goal.

The Raiders controlled possession through the majority of the second half and doubled their lead in the 76th minute. Lucas Lezcano crossed midfield and split the defense with a perfect pass through the middle. Oliver Harris was on the receiving end and drove a shot into the top right corner of the net to stretch the Raiders' lead to 2-0.

Colgate continued to pressure down the stretch to prevent Hofstra from generating any scoring chances. The Raider defense did not allow the Pride to set up offensive possession and Jacob Harris made two saves in the second half to earn his second clean sheet of the season.

FROM THE SOURCE
Colgate head coach Erik Ronning: "Three games in seven days has been a tough stretch for us, both mentally and physically. To be able to come out here and play the way we did tonight, I am very proud of our effort. The crowd was outstanding and we are all very appreciative for Raider Nation. They gave us the extra spark that we needed tonight. It is exciting to see our guys come together. By no means was tonight perfect. There is still a lot we can work on and we are going out to play a very tough team in Denver next week. We have to focus on recovering and continue to create momentum on this great start."
