Raiders Wrap up Season Against Boston U.

Terriers Take Finale 5-1

HAMILTON – Patriot League regular-season champion Boston University used late-inning offense to down the Colgate softball team 5-1 Sunday afternoon in the Raiders' season finale at Eaton Street Field.

Colgate's three seniors, Holly Geranen, Alicia Daly and Kyle Griswold, all saw action in their final game in the Maroon and White. The Raiders remained in contention for a Patriot League Tournament berth heading into the final weekend to highlight a strong season of improvement under first-year head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers.

The game shaped up to be a pitchers duel from the start as first-year Bella Crow limited the Terriers to just two hits through the first four frames.

Colgate wasn't able to get its first hit off BU's Ali DuBois until the bottom of the fourth, but the Raiders made it count. Geranen poked a single to center before first-year Mia Guevarra followed with a base hit to left that was mishandled. The error allowed Geranen to run home and give the Raiders a 1-0 lead through four.

The Terriers answered right away in the top of the fifth as Marina Sylvestri sent a one-out home run over the left field fence to knot the score at 1-1. Three more BU hits followed, including a two-run single from Alex Heinen, to put the Terriers in front 3-1.

BU added a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth and a solo home run in the seventh to make 5-1. Colgate wasn't able to get anything else off DuBois, however, as the Terriers held on to win 5-1.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Marissa Lamison-Myers
  • "This senior class was really important because they were my first senior class and did a great job of embracing the style and culture I was bringing here. They are surely going to be missed."
  • "Holly is a special player and she'll be big to replace. We'll really miss Kyle in the circle. He ate up a lot of innings for us this year. Same with Alicia coming off the bench and putting the ball in play."
  • "As sad as it is to see them move on, we're grateful for what they've left behind for our future."
  • "I was really impressed with how this team embraced change this season. This team finished dead last in league last season and now they've finished fifth. To make that kind of progress in conference so soon is really impressive. We've laid a good foundation and now its time to put in the extra work and get better."
