SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Colgate softball team came out on the short end of a 2-0 pitchers duel at Syracuse Wednesday evening. The day was scheduled as a doubleheader, but rain in the area forced the cancellation of the second game in the fourth inning.
Since the second game had not yet reached four and a half innings, it is not official and will not count.
Syracuse used single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead through two frames of the day's opener. Senior
Kyle Griswold and sophomore
Jessica Hay combined to limit the Orange to just one hit the rest of the way, but the Raider bats weren't able to get going as Syracuse held on to win 2-0. Junior
Meghan Romero and sophomores
Virginia Irby and
Blake Brackett recorded hits in the opener.
The second game was scoreless through three and a half innings before it was called due to rain. First-year pitcher
Bella Crow had rendered the Orange scoreless through three frames.
