Tennis Ready for Schonbraun '96 Spring Break Trip

Raiders Set to Embark for Three Matches at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida

HAMILTON – The Colgate men's and women's tennis teams are ready for their fifth Michael Schonbraun '96 Spring Break Tennis Trip next week when the Raiders fly down to Florida to compete at the IMG Academy.

"We are excited and beyond grateful to the Schonbraun family for our fifth year of this amazing gift to our student athletes," Pennington said. "This year we will play at a top-notch venue in IMG and we play three high quality programs in Drexel, UConn and Quinnipiac. "

The Michael Schonbraun '96 Spring Break Tennis Trip was established in 2013 thanks to the generosity of Bruce and Lynn Schonbraun P'96, in honor of their son, Michael Schonbraun '96, a four-year starter and captain of the Colgate varsity tennis team.

"My son, Michael, had a wonderful 4 year student-athlete experience at Colgate.  My wife Lynn and I, along with Michael, feel strongly about giving back to Colgate student athletes.  We felt that sponsoring the men's and women's annual tennis teams' Spring Break Trip would be an excellent vehicle to do so."

Both programs will compete against three schools while in Bradenton, Florida. The Raiders will take on Drexel Monday morning before facing the UConn Huskies on Tuesday. Colgate will wrap up their matches on the spring break trip against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Thursday, March 15. All three matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

In the 2017 edition of the Michael Schonbraun '96 Spring Break Trip, the Raiders traveled to Hawaii for a once-in-a-lifetime trip where the men's team took on three different Hawaiian universities while the women's team faced two in their time on the islands.

Before Colgate can make the trip down to Florida, they have one more match set for Friday against St. Bonaventure at the Drumlins Tennis Center in Syracuse, New York. The women's match is slated for 1 p.m. while the men will compete at 5 p.m.
