Kurowski Notches Sixth Double-Double at Loyola

Three Raiders Mark Double-Digit Digs in Three Set Loss at Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. – By 30 assists and 10 digs, freshman Julia Kurowski earned her second double-double of the weekend in the Colgate volleyball program's play at Loyola Sunday afternoon. Despite the performance, the Raiders fell 3-0 to the Greyhounds in Patriot League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED – 3-0 LOSS AT LOYOLA
Although the Raiders quickly built a 6-3 lead in the opening set, the reversal of a point in favor of Loyola tied the game at 8-8. After the turning point, Loyola gained a 20-15 lead, before a four-point run by the Raiders put them within one. Although it looked as if Colgate's momentum would propel it to the game win, Loyola's second half push resulted in them claiming the opening set against the Raiders by a 25-20 score.

The second set featured long rallies peppering the game, as Colgate battled for a 15-11 lead midway through the set after Taylor Flaherty tallied her third kill of the afternoon. Similar to the first set, Loyola was able to inch back and reclaimed the lead at 20-19. Colgate was able to match the Greyhounds with a tie scores at 20 and 21, but Loyola advanced to go up two sets to none in a narrow 25-23 final. With the momentum of a two-point win, Loyola was able to keep it a streaky game in the third, a set that featured four and five-point scoring runs by the Raiders, but Loyola sealed the sweep with a 25-20 final.

COACH BAKER'S TAKE
"Loyola is having a great season and today was no different."

"We need to get healthy and battle hard the second half. The league has a great deal of parity with most of our sets being won or lost by 2-3 points.  We need to clean up our physical and mental lapses and we will win more of those close sets.  I can't wait to see how we respond after a solid first half of play.  We have another gear yet."
