HAMILTON – The Colgate volleyball team put up a tough fight, but wasn't able to hand Navy its first Patriot League loss of the season as the Mids earned a 3-0 victory Friday night at Cotterell Court.
The Raiders got out to a quick 5-1 lead in the opening set, but Navy answered with an 8-0 run to pull ahead 9-5. The Mids eventually stretched their lead to six at 16-10 and held onto that six-point advantage at 20-14. Kills from three different Raiders and a pair of service aces from junior
Katie Stansbury, helped the Raiders rattle off a 8-1 run to knot the score at 21. The Mids scored four of the set's final six points, however, to walk away with the 25-23 set-one win.
Colgate was in front 5-1 for the second-straight set, but Navy rallied once again and eventually worked a 20-12 lead. The Raiders answered much like they did in the first set as Colgate strung together a 7-1 streak to trim the Mids lead down to 21-19. Navy held set point at 24-22 before kills from Stansbury and first-year
Alli Lowe allowed the Raiders to knot the score at 24. The game was tied at 25, but Navy scored the final two points to take the 2-0 match lead with the 27-25 set-two win.
The Mids carried their momentum into the third set, jumping out to a quick 14-4 lead. Colgate was never able to recover as Navy clinched the match with the 25-12 win.
