Fifth Inning Leads Lafayette Past Colgate

Bushee With Two Hits and a Stolen Base

HAMILTON – Lafayette used a seven-run fifth inning to break open a 1-0 game en route to an 8-0 victory Friday afternoon at Eaton Street Field.

The game was scoreless through the first two frames until the Leopards got on the board in the top of the third. Lafayette loaded the bases with no outs and was able to push one run across on an RBI single to center, but junior starting pitcher Kyle Griswold got the Leopards to ground into a double play to keep the Lafayette lead at 1-0.

The Raiders threatened in the first three innings, but stranded four runners in scoring position through the first three frames.

Lafayette then broke open the game in the top of the fifth as the Leopards used four hits, two walks, a hit by pitch and a pair of sacrifice flies to plate seven runs and take an 8-0 lead.

Colgate wasn't able to get anything in the bottom of the fifth as Lafayette's Steph Thomas kept her shutout in tact and secured the 8-0 victory.
